THE NEED

Childhood obesity and poor adolescent health are major problems for today's society.
Participation in organized youth sports is a proven way of improving fitness, increasing graduation rates, and teaching positive life lessons for kids.

In Southern Arizona, there is a tremendous shortage of suitable space for youth sports programs that require indoor facilities.
As a result:

Thousands of youngsters are deprived of an opportunity to participate in sports at a recreational level.
Youth sports in Tucson, particularly basketball and volleyball, are drastically underdeveloped.
It is much more difficult for student-athletes to reach their potential and advance to the next level or attain scholarships.
Our community is not doing its part to improve health and fitness among youth

THE SOLUTION

Southern Arizona Indoor Sports Center (the “Facility”) is a new, centrally located, multi-court indoor facility that will be dedicated to youth sports and other activities targeting youth.
The Facility will be a model public-private partnership with Pima County. Southern Arizona Community Sports, Inc. (SACS, Inc.), a Tucson-based non-profit organization, will contribute at least $1 million from the private sector to supplement the balance of construction funds to be provided by the County.
The facility will be staffed, programmed and managed by SACS, Inc. under an agreement with the County. Courts will be made available to the community at a very low cost, much the same way public fields are made available to soccer, baseball and softball organizations.
